The Head of Department of Private and Property law in the faculty of law, Imo State University, Owerri, Associate Professor Reginald Akujobi Onuoha has alleged that the Federal and State Governments were responsible in procuring the death of the National ASUU Chairman, Prof Festus Iyayi.
The Prof stated this in a chat with Trumpeta, while reacting to the sudden demise of the academic pundit.
He averred that if the government had lived up to the bargain it had with ASUU, Iyayi wouldn’t have not died. “The Federal and State Governments were responsible directly and indirectly in procuring the death of Prof Iyayi. Indirectly because had the federal government implanted the agreement of 2009 on “Pact Sunt Serverand” Prof Iyayi wouldn’t have died. Directly because of the carelessness of Kogi State Governor’s Convoy that slaughtered the former ASUU President, manifesting the impurity of our leaders? He added.
He lambasted the governments for playing with the future of Nigerian students as most public officers have their children studying in private schools in Nigeria and abroad, a situation he described as uncalled for.
The academic pundit further revealed that many students who would have graduated this year are busy roaming the street, because of the ASUU strike and however advised governments to do everything within their powers to resolve the impasses. “I advise ASUU leaders to immediately convince their NEC meeting and call off the strike before Prof Iyayi is buried, so that both students and lecturers can participate actively in the burial of a man who wanted the stream of justice to be pure in the university education” He added.
On IMSU Law Faculty Deacreditation, Onuoha expressed dismay over the delay in the erection of a new edifice for the faculty and enjoined the state government to save the law department from total collapse. “The IMSU management should be broad minded in recruiting competent hands to fortify the various departments and for the University and law faculty to recognize the operational existence of the various departments, in the faculty of law, so as to overcome one of the NUC’s negative observations that the law faculty dose not have departments with tridgetary allocations and impress.
He however expressed displeasure that most of the law students, who would have been to law school, by now are still not sure whether their graduating from the university or not.
