A 34 year-old man, named Samuel Chukwunyere Chichi has confessed how he raped a kindergarten to death and threw her dead body into a well in Amaegbu Umulolo in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking to the press when he was paraded by men of the Imo State Police Command at the scene of the crime, Chukwunyere disclosed that he lured the little girl aged 12 to his house with the promise that he bought a (phone) handset for her.
After the promise that the phone was available, the dead victim, little Ifunanya Favour Ibe who before her death was a familiar person to the rapist turned murderer, came to his house. On noticing that the place was lonely, he seized the girl and started to rape her but since he could not assess the private part he went through the anus until the little girl collapsed.
According to him, “when I discovered that the girl has collapsed, I locked her up and decided to throw her dead body into a nearby well when I did not know what to do with the corpse. That was when I knew that people have gone to bed in the midnight”.
On what prompted him into the act Chukwunyere claimed that he is possessed with spirit of rape and this is not the first case because several girls had fallen victim to his illicit and unwholesome acts.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, Mohammed Katsina however stated that the case might not be unconnected to several cases of ritual reports, kidnapping and murder ravaging the area, adding that investigation is on going to unmask those behind this dastardly acts. He said that the pathologist will go further to determine the real cause little Ifunanya’s death.
Katsina said that the arrest of the suspect believed to be an unrepentant serial killer, having been involved in many ritual-related murders from 2004 till the time he was arrested, ends two months of painstaking search for a reported missing girl.
On how Chukwunyere was apprehended, CP Katsina said that after the report of the missing girl, police swung into action. The suspect ran to Abia State but sneaked in to Nkwerre before he was nabbed by the Ambush Squad of the Police.
