The Imo State Governor, His Excellency Chief Owelle Rochas Okorocha has thrown the gate open for the employment of a substantive Vice Chancellor for stated owned University, IMSU.
According to a press release by the acting Registrar/Secretary to Council, Imo State University, Austin Igbojekwe, a vacancy for the post of the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Owerri has been declared by the Governing Council of the University, in keeping with the IMSU Law No 5 of 2004.
The position of substantive Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University who is the Chief Executive and academic officer of the University, Chairman of Senate and the congregation and members of the University Governing Council has for long been held by appointees on acting capacity following the purported sack of Prof Okonkwo who has an outstanding case in court against the University over his removal and the court order for his reinstatement.
Recently, Trumpeta carried a story where ASUU threatened to sanction Prof Anwuzie, the Acting IMSU Vice Chancellor for violating the rule that none of their members should serve as a Vice Chancellor in an acting capacity for a period more than six months.
The advertisement for the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor for Imo State University is coming at the heel of the threat by ASUU against the present Acting VC who was a former Chairman of ASUU.
The would-be substantive Vice Chancellor, who must be of the professional level with about 20 years of academic experience according to the release, must be of very high academic standing, an accomplished administrator with the ability to command the respect of the academic community.
The person must be with proven competent leadership qualities with robust physical and mental health.
