In a matter of weeks, the public event to mark the formal declaration of Ex-Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa back to PDP will be organized.
However, Trumpeta can also reveal the intrigues that transpired and how the presidency twisted Udenwa into re-joining PDP after some year’s absence from the party that made him Governor and later Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Trumpeta learnt that as President Goodluck Jonathan is pulling all strings for a smooth sail in his future political career, run away top shots of PDP were approached. Udenwa was among those who were approached. It was gathered that Udenwa had several meetings with the Presidency where he reportedly informed them that he is not alone in his ACN/APC camp, adding that the interest of his followers and co-travelers in the other party should also be considered while negotiating his PDP return.
After the first discussion with the Presidency, Udenwa came back and summoned a meeting of his political family where he intimated them of the discussion with the Presidency and decision to make a comeback to PDP.
In the course of the discussion and reach out to his political allies, a notable APC Chieftain in the State, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN) was said to have informed Udenwa about the need to establish two committees for the purposes of studying the PDP return and continued stay in APC.
Trumpeta learnt that Ahamba’s solution was to ensure that the committees would proffer the best option for the Udenwa APC than sheepishly moving it to PDP or struggling it out in APC, where they may be losers in the political scheming in the state.
Udenwa’s discussion with his political family was said to have favoured a return to PDP prompting the ex-Governor to make another trip to the President where arrangements are in top gear for the formal declaration.
Meanwhile, what is left behind in ACN faction of APC is in disarray. While some top shots of Udenwa political family have shunned the Governor to join Okorocha’s government and camp in APC, the remaining ACN group seems hopeless as it has lost its leader who could have led them to challenge APC leadership with Okorocha.
It would be recalled that in the build up to the Anambra Guber election held last Saturday, Udenwa maintained a passive role towards the success of the APC candidate, Chris Ngige as he never showed up during campaigns and planning of strategy for the election.
