The ever united and formidable Owerri Federal Constituency is now in political limbo over the forthcoming 2015 general elections.
The constituency noted for its relevance in the political equation of the state, is presently at crossroads over its next political move in 2015.
Recently, stakeholders of the constituency visited the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha where they pledged their support to his Rescue Mission administration.
Since after the visit, several pro Rochas group in the area has sprung up drumming support. The main group suspected to be driving the support of the Governor is Obiriukwu Owerre, made up of political titans and relevant stakeholders in the constituency of three Local Governments; Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West and believed to be sympathetic to the cause of the Governor.
However, Trumpeta learnt that the group, which is yet to unveil its mission, is suspected to have aligned with forces disposed to back Rochas, in the event, Owelle decides to run for a second term as Imo Governor. This allegation has been severally denied by proponents of the group.
In apparent move to counter the rampaging moves of pro-Rochas group, another group perceived to be loyal to some governorship candidates in the PDP are strongly opposing the move. This has played out recently when divergent views and altercations trailed the recent conferment of Chieftaincy title of PDP Guber hopeful, Chief Jerry Chukwueke.
Chukwueke is from Owerri North LGA and his Chieftaincy title sharply polarized not only the traditional institution in the area, but the political class.
It is believed such intricate and delicate political institution will arise in 2015.
