Iheanacho Wary of Mexico’s ‘Wounded Lions’
Kelechi Iheanacho is bracing for a testy duel against Mexico in today’s Under-17 World Cup Final.
The Golden Eaglets decimated the young Mexicans 6-1 in their opening game of the campaign, and Iheanacho says their opponents will now be spoiling for payback.
“It is very easy to say we will beat them, but we have to realize that they are like wounded lions and we must take them seriously,” the midfielder said.
“We need the prayers of Nigerians to achieve that.
“It is not a done deal, we must continue to fight in the final to ensure that we write our names in gold too like the other great players that have won the Cup for Nigeria,” said the midfielder, who five goals and eight assists so far have put him in good stead for the tournament MVP award.
Nigeria defeated Sweden 3 – 0 on Tuesday to book their ticket to final having scored 23 goals conceding on four in 6 matches, while Mexico also edged out 9 men Argentina 3 0 as they attempt to defend the trophy they won two years ago in their country.
