The Nigerian Police Force, Imo Command has stated that Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) is not entitled to police orderlies.
Reacting on recent news items credited to OCDA which accused the police of withdrawing operatives attached to the OCDA, the PPRO, Joy Elemoko stated it categorically that OCDA is not entitled to police attachment. She submitted that the authority is only trying to shift the blame of their failure to the police who does not have any joint job or responsibility with the OCDA stating that “for people to fall in line with the city master plan is not the job of the police”
The PPRO however charged the management of OCDA to go back to their drawing board to amend their mistakes and figure out ways to sensitize the general public on modus oprandi of OCDA in order to stop confrontation and assault on developers and citizens of the state. She said that by so doing, there will be no need for police protection.
Mrs Elemoko, averred that it is not the responsibility of the police to be running after developers with OCDA and abandon the job of tracking criminals, save lives and property. She also disclosed that the police can only come into the picture if the OCDA makes an official report about defaulters. “Then the police can invite the defaulters for dialogue and peaceful settlement”, she added.
The police also berated the authority for accusing the police of compromise without reflecting on the constructive and impartial landmark achievement of the command in the state in recent time. Police also warned against any stage managed protest against the force.
According to her, there were noticeable abuses on the part of the agency who convert policemen attached to them to be orderlies to their wives cronies.
She warned against government agencies using unwarranted and cheap blackmail against the police.
