The Judicially pronounced Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya has warned Traditional Rulers in the state against convening meetings with name of unofficial and unauthorized organizations in the name of Traditional Institution in the State.
He said that there is only but one umbrella Body for Traditional Rulers in the State, and only one authentic Chairman of the organization, which is him, Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya.
“It has come to our notice that some people are hiding under non-existent titles and unofficial organizations having meetings of recognized Traditional Rulers in Imo State without my knowledge and consent. The conveners of such illegal meetings have resorted to manufacturing unofficial and unrecognized titles for themselves (ie President, Imo State Traditional Parliament) which is a clear attempt to evade arrest and prosecution” Ilomuanya said.
He made it clear that the July 5, 2013 Court of Appeal Judgment had clearly defined who the Chairman of Imo Traditional Rulers Council is, adding that any body or Group working against the verdict of that judgment of the Court risks contempt of court.
In another development, Conference of Traditional Rulers, Owerri Federal Constituency, has postponed the public conferment of a Chieftaincy title on one of their illustrious sons, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, which was originally billed for Saturday at Emekuku Football field, in Owerri North LGA.
In a release signed by the Chairman of the Monarchs, His Royal Majesty, Eze Emmanuel Emenyeonu Njemanze, it was stated that the level of politics the occasion generated led the Traditional Rulers to postpone the ceremony.
“The level of politics people generated to this purely cultural event planned to honour one of our sons who in our judgment contributed immensely to the development of our area leaves much to be desired” the release read.
It would be recalled that the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha threatened Traditional Rulers with expulsion or stripping of their titles should they attend the ceremony.
This threat led most of the Traditional Rulers to become jittery and feared the risk of being stripped of their positions, and therefore pleaded that the occasion be allowed to rest until such time when it would be expedient, while tension cools.
