The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has performed creditably well and should be given a second chance by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Nigeria electorate in 2015.
This was disclosed by Chief Jerry Chukwueke, the Mobilization and Contact Committee Chairman of the PDP in Imo State, while speaking at Ohaji/Egbema LGA over the weekend.
Chukwueke maintained that the South East has no excuse not to support Jonathan in 2015 because his administration has favoured Ndigbo than every other regime since 1960.
He said that it was under Jonathan that for the first time, an International Airport was approved in Enugu for the Southeast, including the second River Niger Project that is on-going.
However, Chukwueke described the administration of Gov Rochas Okorocha in Imo State, as inept, rudderless, visionless and focusless adding that if unchecked would lead Ndi Imo into oblivion.
Speaking at the PDP rally held at Central School, Umuagwo, Ohaji/Egbema Council Area last weekend, he said that Okorocha has ruled Imo State for over two years without presentation of logical financial statement stating that all the contracts awarded by the Governor did not follow due process as no Tenders Board existed for award of contracts.
The Contact and Mobilization Committee Chairman stated that Governor Okorocha has crippled the State House of Assembly by inducing the lawmakers to sign a four-year financial budget in advance which he described to be the step for misappropriating of public funds by the present administration in Imo State adding that PDP has set up machineries in motion that would lead to its victory in 2015 in order to re-organize Imo State.
In a remark, the Speaker emeritus of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah described the emergence of Governor Okorocha in 2011 as a “military coup” and “bad luck” to Imolites. Rt Hon Opiah disclosed that ISOPADEC and other government agencies created by PDP administration in Imo State aimed at cushioning the plights of Imolites have been devastated by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
He further disclosed the plan of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to get back to Imo Government House in 2015 expressing that Ohaji/Egbema remains the heartbeat of PDP in Imo State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the party in the Council Area, Hon Henry Ugochukwu Aguguo thanked the Contact and Mobilization Team for their timely visitation to the LGA assuring them that PDP is intact in Ohaji/Egbema despite the outcome of the 2011 election.
Following ineffective representation and unserious approach to welfare of his constituents, the Member representing Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Luke Chukwu has received a heavy blow with his party men and women dumping his APGA/APC for PDP.
The occasion was the event of the Contact and Mobilization team of the PDP in Ohaji/Egbema, where not less than 500 youths from Umuapu Ward where Chukwu hails from decamped en masse to PDP.
Midway into the occasion, several placards-carrying youths and women stormed from Umuapu Ward stormed the venue to join PDP. The placards which had inscriptions that they are denouncing APGA/APC for PDP noted that the failure of the member representing the area and inability of the people of Ohaji/Egbema to be included in the scheme of things necessitated their changed of heart for PDP.
Also hundreds of APGA/APC in Ohuba Obosima, Awara Ikwerede and Assah Obile Wards also turned up to join PDP. The decampees led by their leaders said that the regretted ever allowing Chukwu to be in the House as he has not justified their efforts for him since 2011.
Apart from allowing Governor Okorocha to relocate vital courses from the Imo State Polytechnic at Umuagwo, to other areas, Chukwu was accused of failing to raise the consciousness of his constituents when Umuokanne General Hospital in Ohaji, was closed down without any replacement, the non payment of PHCN bill by ISOPADEC which has thrown Ohaji/Egbema into darkness and working against the interest of Ohaji/Egbema appointees in Okorocha government as well as the non asphalting of local roads in the area.
The event recorded the presence of PDP top members in the area including the member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru-East in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Alphonsus Gerald Irona ably represented by Dr J C N Harcourt, Evangelist Christbrown Amadioha, Prince Rollyngs Ohagwam, Prince Golden Nwokoma, Dr F I Ogbuka, Chief K D K, Hon Damian Opara, Chief Tony Eze Okere, Mrs Nina Nwulu, Ohaji/Egbema LGA Chairman, Prince Chinonye Ikegwuruka, Dr V C Nwulu, the Chairmen of PDP in 12 wards of Ohaji/Egbema, Mrs Lizy Opara and Chief Jude Opara.
