Chief Joe Ndu, a former Commissioner with the National Population Commission, representing Imo State, has been arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over alleged sale of Land belonging to the Commission.
The former Commissioner who appeared before the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo State, was allegedly accused of selling the Land at a sum of N7 Million Naira (Seven Million Naira).
“That you, Joe Ndu, on or about December 29, 2011 in Owerri, Imo State; within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N7 Million under false pretence that (and two others) have the mandate and consent of the National Populace Commission to sell its landed property located at Plot 5028 Commercial Area, New Owerri” the charge read.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecuting counsel, Mainforce Adaka Ekwu asked the court to fix a date for next trial.
However, Barr N A Nnawuchi, SAN, Counsel to Joe Ndu urged the court to grant bail to his client.
At this juncture, the Presiding Judge, Justice S M Shaibu asked the defense Counsel to present a formal bail application for the accused, while the matter was fixed for tomorrow, December 30, 2013.
