Following the rejection of the list of nominees for commissionership positions by Governor Rochas Okorocha by the Imo State House of Assembly last week, indications were rife yesterday that the Imo Governor may have opted to constitute what a source described as an election cabinet.
The previous list rejected by the House was said to have been mainly made up of non-Imolites, which the Governor, had openly declared will be part of his new look cabinet.
Trumpeta sources however said, based on the rejection of the list, the Imo Governor has gone back to the drawing board to constitute an “election cabinet” that will drive the political vehicle of the Rescue Mission in 2015 general election.
Despite his unpredictable political move in 2015, there is growing likelihood that he will set up a cabinet that will mainly comprise of strong political titans, including those from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
According to the source, such “political gurus” will provide the political direction for the APC controlled state government considering the fierce opposition from opposition parties the Rescue Mission will encounter in the next elections.
Trumpeta observed that the Rescue Mission has come under severe pressure from the opposition in the state and it stands to perform poorly in the next elections, if it fails to employ “competent political hands” to manage Owelle’s second term bid.
This thought process among the Rescue Missionaries is believed to be the Chief factor which led to the appointment of former PDP chieftains as the three Mayors of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe Zones. Okorocha had appointed Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze (Oyiga), Tony Black Maduka and Goddy Esom Obodo as Mayors of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe, a move seen in some quarters as a ploy to engage erstwhile political henchmen to orchestrate Okorocha’s second term bid.
