IMO STATE CELEBRATES WORLD POPULATION DAY

The Chief Executive of the National Population Commission, NPC in Imo State, Chief Ohakpukwu Emmanuel Nwaogu has described social enlightenment in the use of contraceptives the only way to break through the barriers of the religious norms, belief and values.

Commissioner Nwaogu stated this during an interactive session marking this year’s world population day in Owerri.

The theme; Universal Access to reproductive Health services, is significant because it complements the state of the world report tagged “Golden Moment” which focuses on family planning.

In his address, the Chairman, National Population Commission, Eze Festus Odimegwu stated that July 11th of every year has been set aside by the United Nations to commemorate the world population day and to reflect on the state of the world population adding that the millennium development goals (MDG’s) 4 and 5 are targeted at reducing child maternity and improving maternal health.

The Chairman’s address was read by Commissioner Nwaogu who represented him.
