Duplication of agencies in Imo: Okorocha’s Inconsistency

May I use this opportunity to ask the government to always look before it leaps. From the inception of the present administration in Imo, the State has witnessed inconsistency in policy formulation by government. Recall the construction of gates all over the state capital which Governor Okorocha denied knowledge of. The ever fresh maiden broadcast of the governor which saw the illegal dismantling of the duly constituted LGA system in Imo, the dissolution of Judicial Service Commission, the cancellation of the 10,000 jobs for Imo Youths, all these decisions were countered by the court.
The government not done, yet created another body to duplicate the LGA system, which he styled, 4th Tier or Community Government. This organ which has no constitutional backing has brought confusion in governance. Again Imo ENTRACO was reconstituted with no stipulated assignment as they were doing the job of Ministry of Transport and that of the Imo Orientation Agency. Imo people complained over what they termed multiple taxation and harassment by government agencies.
Not too long ago, the government created Imo Security Network, Imo State Transport Management Agency, IMSTMA, and reconstituted OCDA.
Since the creation of IMSTIMA, there have been complain of extortion, harassment and over zealousness of personnel of the Agency. These led to the suspension of the agency under the command of Chief Onwukaike. After about a month, the IMSTMA operatives were left off the hooks again, yet there was no change of attitude.
As Imo people complained, the sledge hammer again fell on IMSTMA the second time again. There were also knocks on Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) for jumping the gun to do jobs that do not fall within their scope. OCDA turned transport managers while IMSTMA turned themselves in Traffic Police Officers.
All these indicates that the government is inconsistent and not doing enough to control or monitor the functions, activities and performances of its agencies.
People have began to conceive that with a government that signs sensitive issues into law unknowingly, duplication of responsibilities of agencies in this government cannot be divorced from Gov. Okorocha’s inconsistency in governance. Hence Imo people advice that Government should look before it leaps.
