The people of Umuafor and Umudiche villages in Orlu have magnanimously handed over ninety (90) plots of land to the Orlu Local Government Area Council for the construction of an International Artisans village.
The Sole Administrator of Orlu LGA Chief Barr Hyacinth Mbachu praised leaders of the community for the official handover of the site to the contractor handling the project and commends them for understanding the need to embrace development without any recourse to rancour and acrimony. Chief Mbachu stated that this is not just as in the past when projects were always abandoned on the drawing board as he assured that when the project is completed, people will no longer go to Lagos and Onitsha for car parts, wielding materials and other items as he promised to make Orlu the Japan of the South East.
In his contribution, the Chairman of the construction firm, HRH Eze Dr G. A Nnanna thanked the people for the magnanimous donation and promised that his firm will commence work immediately at the site stressing that the project will be completed within one year.
Responding, the community Liaison Officer, Hon Patrick Ofoegbu expressed delight over the numerous achievements of the SOLAD, especially for the present initiative and promised that the people of Orlu community will give the contractors all assistance needed to achieve the target goal.
The youth leader, Mr Paul Omoumuakpe assured the SOLAD and the contractors of adequate security of their equipment within the period of construction and asked that their youths be carried along in construction process as seen in other areas.
