The Leadership of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has given further clarification on the suspension handed to the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the National Chairman, Victor Umeh said that the party would uphold the suspension of Governor Okorocha until he apologizes to APGA.
It would be recalled that APGA had sanctioned the Imo State Governor for entering into what it termed “unholy alliance” with the parties that formed APC.
Umeh in the interview said that the Governor can only be pardoned if he shows enough remorse over his action, adding that “we have made it clear long time ago that APGA is not in a merger with any political party or association”
He claimed that Imo State has remained the stronghold of APGA since 2003 even though some of their mandates were either stolen by other parties or stopped by the powers that be.
“Imo has been APGA state since 2003, we won and it was stolen away from us and we could not retrieve it at the tribunal”, he said.
“In 2007, the party again won the governorship election, but it was stopped at the point of announcing the results, we went to the tribunal but unfortunately we did not succeed” Umeh hinted.
“In 2011, we won but it was also a difficult fight because we have to go through supplementary elections”. Umeh expressed regrets that the party had done a lot for Okorocha to ensure his victory, but he had decided to defect to APC.
He pointed out that, “There is no way any political party can keep quiet and tolerate such high level of indiscipline from its members”, Umeh insisted.
