The Government on Monday Summoned the Permanent Secretary and the Director of Youth from the Ministry of Youth and Sports over the recent dissolution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Executive, Imo State Chapter.
Sources have it that the two were invited to the Government house to explain their position over the purported report that the state chapter of the NYCN is about to be hijacked by the opposition party in the state.
Sequel to the letter written to the Ministry of Youth and Sports dated 20th day of June 2013 by Prince John Nwakanma led Executive of the NYCN Imo Chapter which was signed by Comrade Nwokeke Emeka calling for a management committee meeting and Non- elective congress, a consensus was reached by the Council of Chairmen, stakeholders and representatives of Voluntary Youth Organizations to enforce Article 10 (d) of NYCN constitution as amended, which states “The Executive Council shall automatically stand dissolved thirty (30) days after the expiration of their tenure if there is no election.
The enforcement of this article which took place at the Youth Council Building along Orlu road on Friday August 2nd has not gone down well with the present Government as reports have it that the ousted NYCN president wrote to Government house accusing the Council of Chairmen of trying to sell Imo Youth to PDP .
Meanwhile, in a quick reaction the Chairmen’s Forum of NYCN, Imo Chapter have moved quickly to debunk the claims of wanting to sell Imo Youths to PDP.
Speaking with “Trumpeta”, the Chairman of Chairmen Comrade Isidore Chukwuemeka asserted that they are not against anybody or the government, but to ensure that the rule of law takes precedence in the NYCN, as illegality cannot beget legality.
“Our interest is to instill the tenets of participatory Democracy in the Imo NYCN by making sure that Imo Youths decides who leads them.
“We are working closely with the Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYO’s) and uniform organizations under the full supervision of Ministry of Youth and Sports. “We are not partisan and cannot be our interest is Imo Youths”, Comrade Isdore stated.
It would be recalled that aside from various resolutions reached at the management meeting which included abiding by the court judgment in SUIT NO. HOW/637/Ow which was delivered on 30/10/2011 that gave Prince John Nwakanma led Imo state NYCN Executives a tenure of one (1) year and six (6) months stating from November 1, 2011 to May 1, 2011.
They also resolved to set up a seven (7) man committee that will take charge of the forth coming NYCN congress.
Two persons from each zone’s and one person representing the Ministry Youth and Sports. Constitutes the committee as the Council of Chairmen also took over the affairs of the secretariat.
