Professor Lady Viola Adaku Onwuliri, minister of state 1, foreign affairs last Saturday commissioned a water project in Okoro na Okazi village Amuzi community in Aboh Mbaise LGA Imo state. The project was initiated by her late husband, Professor Sir Celestine Onwuliri months before his untimely death in the ill fated Dana Airline last June 2012 in Lagos state just as it took the combined efforts of the federal ministry of water resources through her agency, Anambra, Imo ,River Basin Development Authority(AIRBDA), Owerri in state.
Speaking on the event, Lady Onwuliri thanked the president and commander- in- chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his kind gesture in releasing fund for the water project, even while she extended her gratitude to the minister of water resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, the executive members of the village union and the Managing Director of AIRBDA, Engr. Onu C. Eluwa on the ably way the agency under him handled the activities that saw to the realization of the project, pointing out that water is on the priority of the transformation agenda of Dr. Jonathan.
Lady Onwuliri who described Jonathan as a “transformative president” noted that with the commissioning of the project, suffering to get water by the people from far places has become a thing of the past, just as he performed the formal commissioning of the water project by cutting the tape to the glory of God and to the benefit of mankind.
Earlier in his remarks, Engr. Eluwa who represented the minister of water resources on the event, thanked the people for their patience, while the project lasted, urging them to provide adequate security on the facilities against vandalization by miscreants.
The chairman and secretary of the village, Chief Patrick Chiemena and Ezinna Nicholas Obasi respectively thanked the honourable minister for not abandoning the project, even after the death of his husband and for finding it worthy to come despite her tight schedule to come home on the commissioning ceremony, pledging that they will guide against the vandalization of the facilities. Chief John Igbokwe and Mrs. Love Anyanwu, who are from the area in their separate speeches also expressed gratitude to God for using Lady Onwuliri to complete the project, just as they prayed to Him grant the soul of late professor Onwuliri eternal rest.
