It was end of the road yesterday for the Federation Cup defending Champions Heartland Tootball Club Owerri at the Ahmed Bello stadium in Kaduna where it crashed out to Akwa united in the quarter final.
Although, the Naze millionaires took the lead in the 30th minute through former Enyimba star, David Tyavkasi, the Uyo based team fought back in the second half to level the scores 1-1 before it went into extra time.
Unfortunately, the Nduka Ndubuisi led boys could not repeat the magic they did against sharks of Port Harcourt in Benin City as they lost 4-5 on penalties.
Akwa united will meet Warri Wolves in one of the semi’s after Wolves humiliated the NPFL leader Kano Pillars 3-0.
In another semi final pairing Enyimba who defeated 10 man Nasarawa united 1-0 will lock horns with Lobi stars that shoved aside Akwa Starlet 2-1 in Enugu.
Heartland won the cup two consecutive times in 2011 and 2012 against Enyimba and Lobi Stars respectively.
