Robbers Strike at LG Shop, Strangulate Security Man

The police in Owerri has swung into action to unravel the circumstances behind the robbery and strangulation of one of the security men at the LG Depot at Okigwe road Owerri.
Trumpeta crime reporter who visited the venue of the incident at 6B Okigwe road adjacent Imo PDP headquarters said that the residents of the area woke up early hours of Saturday July 27, 2013 only to be greeted with the robbery incident.
Speaking to the Trumpeta, the surviving security man at the Depot Elder Bernabas Enwerem said that the incident took place about the early hours of 4.am that Saturday.
The robbers according to him who numbered over six, had gained entry into the compound from the neighbouring compound after scalling the dwarf fence.
According to him, “the robbers entered the compound through the backyard. And shortly after we saw them, my colleague attempted shouting. Angered by that singular action, one of the robbers ordered that he Onyekwere be tied so as not to expose them”
Elder Enwerem, said that it was the last thing he heard from his colleague as they tied him over his eyes, nose and mouth, legs and hand which apparently led to his suffocation,
He further said that the robbers also ordered him to open the gate of the Depot to them so as to enable their vehicle gain entry into the premises which he told them that he does not have the key to it.
Expressing shock over the incident, the manager of the Depot Mr Emeka Ukachukwu said that unfortunately it was the late Onyekwere who opened the gate and bid him farewell at the close of work the previous night after unloading their goods.
He took Trumpeta reporter to the back of the Depot from where the robbers gained entry into the warehouse.
Although he was unable to ascertain the level of loss both materially and in cash as at when our reporter reported at the scene as men of the Nigerian police were still trying to take inventories as well as move the corps of the deceased to the mortuary.
