Tension is brewing in Ohaoma community, Izombe in Oguta South LGA following the demand of elders and youths of the area that it is their turn to produce the next Imo State Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Available reports indicate that the community is not resting on its oars to achieve its intention as they frown and lament that they have been marginalized for a long period on the issue, saying that it either now or never,
The people contend that the NDDC Imo Commissionership position has been occupied in the past by Victor Koga from Egbema and Prince Emmanuel Asor from Ohaji who served two tenures each respectively.
Others are Ikechukwu Akeru and Peter Ezeobi both from Oguta who served one tenure each respectively.
Trumpeta investigation has it that Ohaoma community in Izombe, Oguta South has not been considered fit or remembered for the Imo NDDC Commissionership position, a situation which has ushered in loneliness, tension and restiveness among the youths and elders of the community.
Their agitation according to them is backed by the fact that Izombe produces 25% of the oil in the area, Oguta 50%, Egbema 20% and Ohaji 5%, arguing that Ohaji, Egbema and Oguta North oil producing areas have produced the NDDC representative for Imo State consecutively for 13 years to the detriment of Izombe oil producing area in Oguta South which has not had any representative since the inception of the NDDC.
The people threatened not to adhere to government programes and policies anymore if one of their qualified and illustrious son(s) is not considered for the plum position, lamenting that further denial of one of their own for the NDDC Commissionership amounts to an extension of marginalization, deprivation and annihilation of their people.
They also urged the State Government to try to share Oguta/Ohaji Egbema LGA appointments equitably to avoid imminent breakdown of law and order in the area, while also calling on the Federal Government to appoint a man from Izombe oil zone, especially from Ohaoma community as the next Imo NDDC Commissioner in the spirit of equity, justice, good conscience and fair play.
