Owerri Mayoral Affairs: A Failure -Deputy Mayor

By kelechi ugo

The Deputy Mayor of Owerri zone, Hon. Prince Frank Ekwere has described Owerri Mayoral Affairs as a failed city when compared to her sister cities (Orlu and Okigwe) in Imo state.
Speaking in his (maiden) state of Affair press briefing on Thursday 25th July, 2013, he asserted that Owerri Mayoral Affairs has been populated with those whom he described as ingrates that had misused opportunities with cruel, negative ingenuity of misappropriation of public funds and sometimes collaborate with certain corrupt civil servants to commit scandalous activities in public offices.
Prince Ekwere however urged the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha (OON) to look inwards in his next selection of Mayoral appointment in order to appoint somebody with credible quality that would pilot the affairs of the city in proactive manner. He maintained that somebody who should succeed the former Mayor should be able to strictly verify and possiblely revoke all contracts cum operational permits bearing the vision of Governor Okorocha on Owerri Mayoral Affairs because of what he described as “injury time, excesses of self-centred political office holders who aimed at signing and backdating official documents even after being relieved of their position”.
In a related development, the city Development officers and city security officers have given the former Mayor of Owerri zone, Dr Kachi Nwoga 24hrs ultimatum to hand over financial report, operational vehicle and other valuable properties of the Mayor Affairs in his possession to the Deputy Mayor, Prince Frank Ekwere as there should be no vacuum in public office.
The leaders which comprised nine (9) officers of city Development and nine (9) city security officers unanimously frowned at the former mayor’s self expenditure of mayoral fund and want the state Governor prior to his appointment of a new mayor to set up an investigative panel to look into Dr Kachi Nwoga’s conduct during his reign as the mayor of Owerri zone.
