Aboh-Mbaise AGOG For Schools Athletic Championship

It was a fun filled activity at the National Sports Center, Nguru on Monday July 21 as everyone gathered for the opening ceremony of the Aboh-Mbaise All Primary and Secondary School Athletics Championship tagged LUMAMTS.
All the 58 Primary and ten Secondary School pupils along with their Games Masters and Teachers turned out en mass for the opening ceremony and the unveiling of the championship Logo which was performed by the immediate past National Sports Commission (NSC) Director General, Dr. Patrick Ekeji.
In his unveiling speech, Dr. Ekeji described the epic event as a commendable achievement which will help to develop sports talents not just for the LGA but for the State and the nation at large.
He however reiterated on the need to continue supporting our young ones with programs like this which according to him will help to complement their academic activities when they graduate.
Ekeji who incidentally was a product of school sports also announced to the people’s administration that the ‘Let’s Play’ program designed to help the younger generation develop their skills will soon be back as arrangements have been concluded to get the Let’s Play partners, Super Sports to help in re-grassing the playing field at Nguru.
He later launched the Logo stickers by picking four at 25,000 naira each while stating that his friends will also be lending their supports by collecting the stickers when he gets back to Abuja.
In his own speech the sponsor and the Sole Administrator (SOLAD) of Aboh-Mbaise Hon. Anthony C. Atudume said the intention behind the program speaks for itself as the LGA wants to rescue sports adding that it cannot be left alone for government to carry.
Hon. Atudume however maintained that if sports can be developed it means that the future of our children has been planned fo,r while calling on all sons and daughters of Aboh-Mbaise to join the band-wagon of preparing a better future for our youths.
Continuing Atudume who has also served as the TC Chairman of Aboh-Mbaise stated that he is using the platform to build their Communities in line with the CGC norms of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
He also said that football will be given attention as a community soccer competition will kick-off in a month time which according to him will see the 33 communities engage themselves in a competition designed to foster peace and harmony as well as discovering football talents adding that a sports endowment trust fund will be organized to raise funds for the development of sports in Aboh-Mbaise which will be managed by a committee that will be drawn from the CGC’s.
In one of the 100m heats decided on Monday Njoku Chinonye of Central School Enyiogugu demonstrated the spirit of Olympics when she fell halfway but picked herself up and still finished the race to the admiration of the crowd making her a true Olympian.

Eagles Round-up For CIV With Victory

Super Eagles recorded a 2-0 win in their final warm-up game against TEAP FC in Abuja on Tuesday. After a goalless first-half in which the modest NNL side put up a resilient performance by keeping the dominant Eagles attackers at bay, Stephen Keshi made some changes to the team by bringing in two Enugu Rangers players. Striker Alhaji Gero came on for Ezekiel Mba while Chibuzor Okonkwo came on for Solomon Kwambe in defense. The substitutions proved inspirational as the Super Eagles took the lead just three minutes into the resumption of the second half. Sunday Mba dribbled through the opposition’s defense before sliding a pass to Gero who struck the ball in to give the Eagles the lead. Enyimba striker Ifeanyi Edeh doubled the advantage when he headed in a cross from Okonkwo on the hour mark.
The Keshi led boys will leave Abuja today for Lagos were they are expected travel from to Abidjan, Ivory Coast venue for the second leg of the CHAN qualifiers which Nigeria has a 4 1 advantage from the first leg a forth night ago.
NFF declared that only 18 players will make the trip to Abidjan including the tow goalkeepers Captain Chigozie Agbim and Daniel Akpeyi of Heartland fc.
