In what appears a clear move to decimate the inherent political gains to be harnessed from the first Ever Imo Political Summit expected to hold in Imo State Capital today, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has invited Executives of the three major political parties involved in the formation of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Imo State.
Okorocha is alleged to have deliberately scheduled a meeting with leaders of the ACN, ANPP and CPC in the state, a situation which raised concerns among leaders of these parties on reasons why such a meeting should hold on a day political stakeholders irrespective of party platform would be hold Imo Political Summit. Trumpeta had exclusively reported yesterday that the Governor’s faction of APGA had come under fierce criticisms from other political parties in the merger for its overbearing and domineering political character.
Political pundits, therefore, interpret the desire of Okorocha to invite leaders of the opposition today at the Ahiajoku Center, as a deft political strategy to not only whittle down the political gains of the Imo political summit but also distract people from attending the function. The maiden summit, organized by Imo Stakeholders Forum, aims at restoring the Imo Charter of Equity and Socio-political Development of Imo state.
The summit scheduled to hold at All Seasons Hotel, according to political pundits is a platform designed to attract opposition members who are disenchanted with the domineering political stature of Governor Rochas Okorocha who grabbed power two years ago and may not be disposed to allowing rotation of the next gubernatorial position.
Trumpeta learnt that the Governor’s think-tank department and elders’ council, sensing this development, decided to move against the summit by scheduling a meeting with the opposition group in order to have a united and formidable APC against the protagonists of the Summit believed to be from the PDP.
The APC meeting holds today and coincides with the same time scheduled by organizers of the Imo Political Summit.
Speaking to Trumpeta on the matter, the Summit Director General, Fidel Onyeneke disagreed with insinuations that the governor’s meeting with the opposition has nothing to do with the Summit.
“The Summit has good intention for the political peace, unity and growth of Imo State and its people. Nobody will truncate it.
It will be held under a conducive atmosphere for the benefit of Imo. All he wants is equity and justice in the scheme of things. We are not against any group, individual or political party” Onyeneke stated.
