Following the August 2013 scheduled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mini Convention, an Imo state born veteran journalist, party stalwart and a National Publicity Secretary aspirant, Chief (Sir) Chyna Iwuanyanwu, has revealed that the positions of the National Woman Leader and that of the Publicity Secretary have been zoned to the South-East with no state or person in mind so far and therefore, any body from the South-East state is free to run.

The veteran journalist disclosed this to journalists in Owerri recently, while speaking on the need to elect a true professional for the post of Publicity Secretary “If a lawyer can not be compromised in the post of legal adviser or an accountant in the post of financial secretary/auditor why would journalists be compromised in the Publicity Secretary Position?” Chief Iwuanyanwu queried.

He went further to submit that PDP is the most democratic party in the country despite the activities of some cabals in the party “In every twelve there must be a Judas”, Chief Chyna went further to extol the courage of President Goodluck Jonathan and other leaders for the uncommon courage and exemplary patriotism in taking a necessary but painful step to transform and restore the dignity of the party as a platform that promotes the ideals of democracy and good governance.

Furthermore, he believes that the proposed mini convention will facilitate the emergence of leaders who are totally accountable to the party and not to any person or group of persons. Holding also that as a party member, he has the right to contest, win or lose, anything short of that will be an infringement on his fundamental human right.

Although according to him, he does not ask for adoption or manipulation for aspirants, he also believes that with an overriding agreement/interest of the aspirants a consensus candidate can emerge and not by imposition or by sacrificing quality.

However, finding himself eminently qualified for the National Publicity Secretary that is zoned to the South-East, the Nwangele LGA born PDP stalwart and veteran journalist with 30 years experience has given himself for the service to an improved PDP. In his words “It has always been my belief that so much of good politics is effective public communication to connect to the people, the manifesto of the party and the agenda of the Government elected under the party platform because democracy and good governance can only blossom in an environment in which the people have unlimited access to qualitative information. “The choice we make at Eagle Square in August will decide the fate of our party in 2015 and beyond” Chief Iwuanyanwu submitted.

Imo Police Commissioner’s Ex-Aide Murdered

Men and officers of the Imo State Police Command were thrown into mournful mood yesterday when the news filtered in that an aide to the State Police Commissioner, one police officer, Barr Tagbo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, was killed on Sunday night at his Irete home in Owerri West LGA.

Until recently, DSP Tagbo, a lawyer and Senior Police Officer worked as a personal assistant to the present CP of Imo State, Mohamed Katsina.

Though report is still sketchy, but Trumpeta learnt that unknown and yet to be apprehended gunmen stormed his Irete home where he was brutally murdered.

After the gunshots, the attacked Tagbo was rushed to Federal Medical Centre where he finally gave up the ghost as he was reported to have lost enough blood arising from gunshot wounds.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Joy Ekonoko proved abortive as her phone rang severally but unanswered as at the time of going to press.
