A labourer aged 30 years, working on a farm along Egbeada road, Owerri was yesterday electrocuted. The deceased, identified as Ifeanyi Akammadu hailed from Obile in Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State.
The, younger brother to the deceased, Azunna Akammadu told Trumpeta that the tragic incident occurred after he and Ifeanyi had finished tilling the soil opposite the Federal Housing Estate.
According to him, his late brother decided to climb a mango tree in the farm in order to cut off some of its branches to allow for sun rays to penetrate the farm land. Azunna explained that the first branch of the mango cut off mistakenly fell on a suspended high tension wire and part of the branch rested on one of his legs. In the process, he was electrocuted.
He further narrated that when the incident happened, the people alerted Authorities of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to switch off the power to possibly save him.
However, Azunna alleged that for three hours none of the officials of the PHCN came to the spot even though they were informed.
One of the residents as Federal Housing Estate, Egbeada, Chief Chris Nwike said the residents had complained severally to the officials of the PHCN to fix the suspended high tension wire very close to the tree.
He said that Ifeanyi, the deceased was electrocuted because one of the loose high tension cables was close to the tree and appealed to the PHCN officials to rectify the fault to forestall recurrence of the said incident.
Imo Assembly honours Achebe
Sets to move Against Kingsley Kuku over Marginalization of Ex-militants.

The Imo State House of Assembly has mourn the death of African famous literary icon Prof Chuna Achebe. The House members before proceeding plenary yesterday stood a minute silent in respect of the icon whose body was committed to his mothers earth that same yesterday being 23rd April, 2013.
The member for Ezihitte Mbaise, Hon. Barr. Obioma Ekenea described Prof Achebe as an icon that had contributed immensely to the development and liberation of Blackman race.
Meanwhile, the House has condemned the incessant marginalization and exclusion of Imo State Ex-militants from the presidential amnesty programme and award of contract on pipeline surveillance by the special Adviser and Chairman of Presidential amnesty programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku.
The House resolved that a committee should be constitute comprising Imo House of Assembly Committee Chairman on NDDC Affairs, Senate Committee chairman on NDDC and some viable Imo members of National Assembly to report the issue to the Honourable minister of NDDC for immediate correction of such obnoxious act by Hon. Kuku it further resolved that president Goodluck Jonathan should be urged to call his Aide to order.
Supporting the motion which was sponsored by the Deputy speaker of House, pharm Donatus Ozoemenam, the member representing Ohaji/Egbema state constituency, Hon. Chief Luke Chukwu noted that Imo state is part and parcel of NDDC that would not denied their any opportunity of benefiting from amnesty programme as granted by Ex-president of Nigeria, late Musa Yar’dua hence Imo extraction of the ex-militants were part of those who surrendered their arms, ammunitions and explosives to the GOC 82 Division Nigerian Army Enugu.
According to him, the first approved slot which was 20,192 was given to Imo only 300 slot second phase was, 6,166, phase 3 was 3,642 which Imo has no slot.
In his speech, the SA to Governor Okorocha on Niger Delta Affairs Hon Eric Nwanom noted that the total ex-militants in Imo that surrendered their arms were about 2000 but only captured 300 people which he said is a trait to national unity.
