Ahead of the 2015 election and following political undercurrents that is sweeping across Imo State, two political giants from Orlu zone, Governor Rochas Okorocha and former number one citizen of the state, Chief Achike Udenwa met yesterday, at the Imo State Government House, Owerri.
Trumpeta gathered that the meeting between the duo was at the behest of Governor Okorocha who is said to be retracing his steps for the task ahead.
Though details of the discussion was not made public but our Government House sources revealed that issues relating to the formation of the new unregistered All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State as well as Orlu Agenda in the present political dispensation dominated deliberations.
Despite being a key factor in APC formation from his ACN background, Udenwa has been relegated in APC programs in the state with Okorocha at the fore front. It would be recalled that during the “Freedom Day” rally where APC Governors stormed Owerri to join Okorocha for the public declaration, Udenwa was conspicuously absent as he shunned the event with several of his supporters. In the same vein, Udenwa after initial romance when Okorocha came into power in 2011 has shown apathy to state functions.
Apparently aware of the fact that notable Imo politicians are scared to join him in the Rescue Mission crusade as their presence are never felt in the Governor’s state and public functions, Okorocha is reported to be making deft approaches to some seasoned and respected politicians like Udenwa.
Another issue of importance that warranted the meeting is the Orlu Agenda. It was reliably gathered that the State Governor is renewing the Orlu brotherhood ahead stiffer challenges he is getting from Owerri zone leaders who are preaching for power shift to Owerri zone in 2015.
The Orlu agenda was said to have played a prominent role in the emergence of Owelle Rochas Okorocha as prominent political leaders of the zone, irrespective of party affiliations rallied support for the incumbent Governor in the last general election.
