Traders/Artisans Cup LOC
The number one citizen of the state, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha has praised the efforts of members of the Local Organizing Committee of the ongoing Rescue Mission Traders/Artisans football competition.
Okorocha who disclosed this at the Dan Anyiam stadium on Tuesday May 21, when he visited the sporting arena on an inspection tour described the competition as a very innovative program that deserves commendation.
He however asked that the final match be moved to the 29th of May adding that the final will be celebrated as a carnival were Nigerian music stars will be invited to entertain spectators in conjunction with the democracy day celebration.
The Gov. who was later trilled by the teams that were slogging it out in the first semifinal game extoled the Traders and Artisans for showing maturity and dedication towards the competition promising that on the final day the Brand New Bus will be decorated in the stadium with other trophies for several other awards as all participating team m will perform a match past.
He was then briefed by the LOC chairman, Mr. Ndubuisi Opara and his secretary, Mr.E Ihesiaba on the state of the competition which kicked off on May 12, with teams drawn from different traders and artisans association in the state.
In a related development, Okoroch also expressed satisfaction with the level of job done so far with the all-round roofing of Dan Anyiam spectators stand, stating that when completed that football lovers can watch Heartland games and other matches under a conducive environment.
He also took time to praise the efforts of Heartland football club who recently went top of the NPFL log after defeating ABS fc of Ilorin in their week 13 encounter last Sunday at home while advising the management, technical crew and players not to relent in their efforts to sustain their position promising that soon their allowances will be improved.
Former Heartland Striker Ogbu In Egypt For Trials
Former Heartland FC Stricker,Brendan Ogbu is reported to have arrived Egypt over the weekend to undergo trials with a yet to be named club with a view of signing a deal.
Reports reaching Trumpeta sports desk reveals that the said Egyptian club side facilitated the travel papers and flight tickets of the former Rangers player.
The player’s agent Buade Oluwasegun Joel stated that the team have been monitoring the performance of the striker and have shown serious interest in having the striker to boost their attacking opinions.
It would be recalled that the gangling striker did score a last ditch winner to ensure Heartland retained the Federation cup against Lobi Stars at the Teshim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. He has also since the end of last season’s proceedings had trials in Tunisia and Russia.
The player who failed to cement his relationship with the cup holders will be unveiled by the club if he comes out successful in the trial and possibly tie down a 3 years deal a source disclosed to Trumpeta.
Tire Dealers Ride On Welders Into Traders/Artisans Cup Final
Owerri Tire Dealers Association football team on Tuesday qualified for the final of the Rescue Mission Traders/Artisans football competition after trashing the Welders Association, Egbu 4 1.
The game which was the second semifinal game of the competition played at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri by 4pm and was witnessed by an appreciable crowed saw the Tire Dealers take the lead in the 15th minute through their no.7 player Ifeanyi Duru and doubled their lead at the start of the second stanza at the 48 minute as Anichie Sunny tapped home well traded pass from his captain.
Although the Welders threw caution in the wind when they got a goal immediately after conceding the second, but the Tire boy’s kept their cool and rapped the game with two quick goals from Ifeanyi his second of the day and Chima Mbata who came on in the second half to make it 4 1.
Reacting to their victory after the game, Coach Gospel Okoroafor, thanked God for granting them the sweet victory stating that his boys will not rest until the trophy is won.
Also speaking the chairman of Tire Dealers Association Douglas Road, Mr. Christian Ezechukwu expressed satisfaction towards the achievement of his boys promising that his association will make available all resources that will motivate them to win the first prize.
He then thanked His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his innovative and quality leadership style that he has shown since ascending the Governors sit, citing instances with the free education, the rapid road construction all over the state, the 27 general hospitals that are under construction in all the local Govt. Areas and so many other monumental infrastructures the Rescue Mission Program has attracted to the state.
In the first semifinal game decided by 1pm, the Okada Riders Eziosu in Oguta LGA defeated the Indigenous Traders Association Owerri 3 0 to also make the final that will now be played on May 29.
Meanwhile, the third place game between the Indigenous Traders and the Welders have been slated for 2pm also on May 29 as a prelude to the final game which will start by 4pm and graced by the Gov. and his entourage to mark his second year in office as well as the achievements recorded by the Rescue Mission Program.
