Cup Holders Hoping

To Win League Trophy

Cup holders Heartland football club, Owerri has promised to put at their best in their subsequent games so that they can sustain their position at the top of the NPFL log.

Still smarting from their slim victory over ABS fc in Owerri, on Sunday which has taken them to the top of the log, team coach Ramson Madu assured that they will continue to work hard in the league.

He maintained that they will continue to adopt the same style of approach when they meet Sunshine Stars of Akure this Wednesday.

“Every match is a tough game and we will approach the Sunshine game the same way we have approached all our games.

“We hope to maintain the tempo even in our away games and we will see what happens next, “the former Iwuanyanwu National Player said.

The team left Owerri on Monday to Akure for their week 14 NPFL encounter against Sunshine fc hoping that financial fortunes will smile on them as they continue to pray that the authorities  comes to their aid especially concerning their entitlements.

The Naze millionaires on Sunday defeated ABS fc of Ilorin at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri to go top of the log ahead of Kano Pillars who lost 2  1  at Warri Wolves in.

Amarachi Ukaegbu ‘s goal in the 34th minute was enough for Heartland to secure a seventh win this season.

Heartland and Kano Pillars are both on 22 points but the former have superior goals deference.

Both teams have a game in hand apiece and coincidentally the tie is between them at lokoja on the 30 of May.

Imo Referees Selected For NFF/E. K Clark U-18 Int’l Football Tournament

Two Imo council referees were on Tuesday the 14 of May selected for the Nigeria Football Federation/E Clark u-18 Int’l football competition currently going on at the Uyo township stadium.

Andy Ubani (State Asst. Training Officer) and Phoebe Ogbuji were selected to participate after a pre-tournament seminar and aptitude test conducted by FIFA Peter Edibe and Mr. Linus Mba on behalf of the NRA.

The competition which is hosted by Akwa Ibom state govt. is for Academy teams drawn from various states in Nigeria and teams from other countries.

The host is reportedly taking care of the accommodation and feeding of the participants that includes CAF representatives led by CAF media committee member Mr. Paul Bassey.

The 8 team competition which kicked off on  May 15, is expected to come to a close by this weekend with the winner smiling home with trophies and cash awards.

Results gathered so far indicates that Grater academy (Akwa Ibom) defeated Yenegoa Academy (Bayelsa) 1  0 in the opening game.

In other games, Rangers Academy (Enugu) also beat Pepsi Academy (Lagos) 1  0; Sports Nouva fc (Rivers) lost 1  0 to Amezon Academy (Abuja) while King Amkeri fc (Benin Rep.) played out a 1  1 draw with Delta State Academy.

On the third day, the results showed that Delta beat Bayelsa 1  0; Rangers walloped Sports Nouva 5  0and Pepsi lost 1  2 to Amezon.

It is however, sad to note that with the availability of youthful teams

Littered in Imo state, we could not send a team to competition that means a lot to development of our youths.

Rescue Mission Traders Cup Enters Semi-final Stage\

After about one week of football hostilities around the various centers selected for the Rescue Mission Traders/Artisans football tournament, the competition has entered its semi-final stage.

Reports reaching Trumpeta shows that  four teams made it to the semi’s which will be played at the Dan Anyiam stadium today May 21

by 1pm and 4pm respectively.

At 1pm the Indigenous Traders, Umuoyima will take on the Eziosu Okada riders from Orlu zone while by 4pm Tire Dealers, Owerri will engage Welders Union of Egbu.

The competition which is organized by the Ministry of youth and sports to celebrate Governor Rochas Okorocha’s two years in office

and the Rescue Mission program will come to an end on May 26.

The winner will go home with a brand new bus donated by the Gov.

In a related development the team manager of the Indigenous Traders Mr. Paschal U Nzeh expressed satisfaction over his team’s victory against the NURTW team in one of the quarter final matches played on Friday, May 17.

The director of EVA HIS Electricals located at no 6 Oyima street, Owerri stated that his team is looking good for the trophy having edged out one the strongest team (NURTW).

He however urged his players to stay focused as the entire Indigenous Traders Association will troop out en mass to support them till the trophy is won.
