Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has continued to receive knocks from members of his political family- the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) over his defection to the newly formed All Progressive Congress (APC)
Okorocha had last week claimed that he remains a member of APGA despite his open declaration on Freedom’s Day that he is for the APC.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, APGA’s Deputy National Chairman, Chief Ejike Uche maintained that APGA is not part of the merger of some opposition parties in the country, stating that Governor Okorocha went into the merger for his selfish political interests.
Uche stated that Okorocha betrayed APGA despite the enormous and massive support given to his governorship aspiration in 2011by members of the party. He explained that Okorocha’s action amounts to breach of trust
Hear Uche “We trusted him, yet he turned around betrayed us. He has insulted APGA by calling it a cultural organization. And I ask how a cultural orgainsation can produce a governor. He has shot himself in the foot”
Uche emphasized that Okorocha has shot himself in the foot by joining a party that is not registered, adding that they wish him well and success in his new political adventure. He accused the Imo governor of systematically strangulating APGA by neglecting the party that catapulted him to the number one seat of government in the State and rather gave preference to his Agenda group.
He debunked the Governor’s new found definition of the party –APGA/APGA and APGA-PDP, saying there is only one APGA known to Nigerians and duly registered.
In his contribution, the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Emeka Ukaegbu, said Okorocha’s recent posture will not erode the founding tenets of the party in the State despite the fact that APGA in the State is averse to attempts to dismember the party in Imo.
He stated that APGA will never part of any merger or alliance with opposition parties. Also speaking in the same vein, the Owerri Zone Chairman of APGA, Tony Mgbeahuruike accused Gov Okorocha of destroying and eliminating APGA by neglecting it and funding APGA.
He described Okorocha’s brand of politics as “Owellinacracy” which the people of the State will resist soonest.
“Imo people are getting wiser and are ready to retrieve their mandate” he said.
