The Imo House of Assembly has directed the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ann Dozie and the Head of Service, Mrs Nkechi Onumajulu to appear before the House to give answers to some pressing issues in the state.
In a motion of adjournment moved by Hon Obioma Ekennia, representing Ezinihitte Mbaise constituency, the Commissioner for Women Affairs was asked to appear before the House, following the discovery of a “Baby Factory” at Umuaka, in Njaba LGA.
It would be recalled that the Police in Imo State, unveiled the operation of an illegal orphanage home in Umuaka, Njaba LGA, where teenage girls are camped and impregnated by hired males and then their babies taken away after birth for sale to rich buyers.
In further investigations, a source had hinted that the Government was aware of the operations of the illegal “Baby Factory”, an allegation which Mrs Dozie, the Commissioner for Women Affairs had since denied.
But the Imo Legislature said the matter would be dug further to unravel those behind the act and therefore resolved to invite the Commissioner for questioning.
In the same vein, the House invited the Head of Service, Mrs Nkechi Onumajulu to appear before it following allegations that some Imo civil servants who went for approved study leaves were sacked on their return to assume office.
The motion was moved by Hon Stan Dara, representing Orsu state Constituency.
The House also asked the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to sack the Chairman of the Imo Civil Service Commission, Prince Cletus Nwaka, and Commissioner 1 of the Commission, Chief Analyn Nwaeri for abuse of office and refusal to obey Government instructions.
The motion was put on vote by the Speaker, Rt Hon Benji Uwajumogu, and the ayes had it. The motion to remove Nwaka and Nwaneri was sponsored by Hon Adaku Iheoma, the Majority Leader of the House, and representative of Ahiaze Mbaise Constituency.
