Owerri, the heartland State Capital was agog last weekend as over 6,000 Imo Youths participated in the selection examination for Senator Christ N.D Anyanwu second phase advanced 6 months intensive comprehensive free information, communication and Technology (ICT) empowerment programmes.
The event which attracted mammoth elite of Imo Youths was held at Government College Owerri and handled by Karrox Computers International as the major consultant.
Litany of senior management staff of the Distinguished Senator representing Owerri Senatorial Zone in the Senate which include Engr. Obinna Ibe, Nze Jude Opara, Hon. Esther Kamalu, Hon. John Bosco Nnawuihe and Hon. Obinna Ibe but led by Mr. Everest Ezihe, her media consultant represented the Senator at the event.
Ezihe, while addressing the youths on behalf of the senator sincerely expressed the regrets of being absent at the event attributing her absence to patriotic exigency of duties assigned to her by the presidency and joint leadership of the national assembly within the day.
In her message, Senator Anyanwu enjoined the youths to take the examination seriously noting that little above 300 of them who exceptionally excelled will be offered the opportunity for the intensive specialized comprehensive advanced ICT training programmes.
The Senate Committee Chairman on Navy said that, it will cost her over N300,000 (Three hundred thousand Naira) to train each of the selected candidate in any of the advanced but certified international professional courses like Oracle, Java, Cisco, Web Design, Computer Appreciation etc.
She further expressed her commitment in ensuring that Imo Youths are tailored towards modern technological capacity building that will make them enviable and viable in the nation’s ever competitive job markets.
According to her, “I have a burden as a mother of ensuring that Imo youths being future leaders of the nation and agents of change are vocal and economically engaged with acceptable attitudinal change so as to shun crime, violence and anti-social activities inimical to the societal growth” she informed.
The Senator further advised the youths on the need to resist politicians using them as a willing tool to wreck havoc on the society for their selfish interest and to be self discipline and courageous in all their endeavour.
Responding on behalf of the other participants, Mr. Chukwuka Onyeka of Eziome Mbieri in Mbaitoli Council area of the State thanked the Senator for being visionary, passionate and patriotic on things patterning the youths.
Onyeka also lauded the Senator for her qualitative and effective representations in the Senate noting that people of Owerri Senatorial Zone, Imo State and Nigerians at large have no regret having her in the Senate.
He passionately appealed to the Senator to ensure that meritocracy is strictly adhered to him in selecting the beneficiaries while re-assuring their commitment to support the Senator in all her future political endeavours.
.It will be recalled that last year, Senator Anyanwu freely sponsored 321 Imo youths for the first phase of the Advanced ICT Internationally certified empowerment programmes.
Early this year, as part of her unflinching commitment in empowering the youths , she again gave over 200 Imo youths in tertiary institutions in the State N80,00 each as bursary allowances and many others bagged her scholarship under the auspices of her NGO called N.D. Uka’s Foundation.
Within the period also, 27 youths spread across the 9 council area that constitutes her Senatorial district benefitted from the first phase of her or boost their businesses Youths Economic Empowerment Programmes, each of them received N200,000 to start.
