As against the earlier report by an Owerri based newspaper captioned “Hoodlums Escape With Money”, one of the SUBEB Officials, Mrs Anamelechi Regina has refuted the entire story stating that she and her other colleagues were attacked and beaten up by Oru East Sole Administrator, Chief Donatus Ejifugha and his killer Squad led by a man called “One-man-squad”.
Narrating their ordeal at the Local Government Headquarters in the hands of the SOLAD and his gang, Mrs Anamelechi told our reporter that on that fateful 29th day of April, 2013, after paying all the pupils in the eight (8) primary schools in Awo Area assigned to them, they retired to the council headquarters around 5.55pm to intimate the SOLAD before returning back to their Owerri office. Minutes after their arrival, some men came to them and asked them to give them some money from the remaining money in their possession which they refused, rather they went to a nearby police station for refuge before the arrival of the SOLAD.
Heaven was however let loose at the police station on the arrival of Chief Ejifugha (the SOLAD) who pointedly them to handover the remaining money to him but they told him that they were directed to return the money to the Government House for proper accountability. At this juncture, the SOLAD and his squad pounced on the officials dragging and forcing them to hand over the balance of the money to them. In the process, one of the female officials was stripped naked, others beat-up, and injured, their personal items such as jewelries were stolen and the bag of money forcefully taken away from them and put it in the boot of the SOLAD’s car. None done yet, the SUBEB officials were bundled into their official bus with an order to run away for their lives by the ring leader who boasted that he can kill, maim anybody and nothing will happen because he works for the governor.
However, the helpless official notified their Owerri office and a call was put across to the SOLAD, who immediately transferred back the bag of money into the SUBEB official bus.
Mrs Anamelechi said that she was bemused to read an entire false version of the incident to the extent of quoting her when she did not grant any interview to any media house/person before talking to Trumpeta newspaper yesterday, she also disclosed that she has earlier submitted her reports and medical reports to the relevant authorities.
On behalf of the officials, Mrs Anamelechi urged the relevant authorities to treat the report with the merit it deservers, over the inhuman, degrading, molesting and barbaric action of the Oru East SOLAD, Chief Donatus Ejifugha and his killer squad on people drafted to carry out the legitimate assignment by the State Government.
Replying to the allegation, the SOLAD Ejifugha confirmed that there was an attack on the SUBEB officials, stating that it was not masterminded by him. He went further to say that he only tried to protect government’s money.
