Imo All- Stars Begins Construction
Of International Sports Complex
The Official Laying Stone for the building of an International Sports Club that is constructed by the Imo Allstars was performed on Saturday May 4 by the State commissioner for youth and sports, Hon. Kenneth Emeh.
At the brief ceremony were the Ag. Dirctor of Sports, Mrs. Chizotam Aretola, former State FA Chairman and GM Iwuanyanwu National FC, Chief Uche Ejiofor, All-stars president, Eng. Ugochukwu Nnah, former Heartland Coach, Kelechi Emetole (cartapilar), member NFF Committee on security, Mr. Teddy Isiadingo and a host of others.
In his speech while performing the laying stone ceremony, Hon. Emelu expressed his delight over the giant project as he extolled All-stars members especially it’s executive’s and the president for coming up with such a wonderful job calling on them to name the building after the immediate past Director of Sports, Late Chief Goddy Agbarakwe All-Stars Sports Complex.
Hon. Emelu further emphasized on the need for the organization to always advice, encourage and support the government in other to achieve greater success in future.
He however advised against anything that will not bring peace and development stating that with buildings like this one, ‘Imo must be better’.
In another development, the Commissioner commended the Ag. Director of Sports, Mrs. Aretola, whom he described as a hard working administrator especially in her role in six Imolites being elected into some of the Sports Federations, including Mr. Chinedu Ufomadu (permanent secretary of the Ministry of Sports).
He added that with these developments Imo will sure have a good measure of improved result in the next National Sports Festival in Calaber.
In his own reaction , the All-Stars president, Eng. Ugochukwu, used the opportunity to thank the Commissioner on his efforts towards ensuring that the ground were the Complex is being situated was approved and his general support to the Organization since his assumption of office.
He then promised that with Unity and Progressive nature of All-Stars they will continue to work towards the growth and development of Sports in Imo State.
Heartland To Resume NPFL Hostilities With
Bayelsa United, After Clinching State Fa Cup
Back to back federation Cup Champions, Heartland football Club of Owerri will on Wednesday or take on Bayelsa United in week 10 of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL)
The League which was on a one week break to allow teams rond up their State Federation Cup games will see the NPFL teams back in action this midweek
In Owerri, the State Fedderation /Governors Cup final took place between the defending champions Heartland Fc and former Pro-League Side Bussdor United Fc who were making a return after two to three years of sabbatical leave.
Striker Akor Isa Umosu, Scored a brace to make sure that the state and National federation Cup champions retained their trophy.
It would be recalled that Isa who is the NPFL’s leading scorer and was the highest goal scorer in this same competition last year while plying his trade for Crown Fc. He also got the soletory goal that edged out hard fighting patros Fc in the semi-final last Wednesday.
The 2013 Imo FA Cup beaten finalists, Bussdor United Fc will be making their first appearance for the state at the national level while Heartland are one of the regulars of Nigeria’s oldest and glamorous annual football competition.
Heartland presently are occupaying the sixth position on the log table with 10 points from a possible 27. Although they still have a game at hand against Kano Pillars Scheduled for Abuja.
Imo Sports Council Formaly Hand’s Over
Fivb/olaedo’s Gift’s To LGA Sports Secretaries
Saturday may 4, will remain a memorable day to the LGA sports secretaries as they were all filled with joy when the formal hand over of the sports equipments from FIVBA and Hon. Lady, Ngozi Pat Ekeji(OLAEDO) was done.
During the official handover ceremony that took place at the main bowl of Dan Anyiam Stadium, the Ag. Director of sports Mrs. Chizotam Aretola, used the opportunity to once more thank their benefactors, Federation of International Volleyball Association (FIVBA) and the member representing Aboh Mbaise LGA at the State house of Assembly, Hon. Lady, Ekeji who donated a combined total of 90 Volleyballs and 8 nets to the sports council.
She however called on other citizens of Imo State to also help the sports council in the development of sports by emulating the gesture of FIVBA and OLAEDO, who have shown the way forward.
According to the sharing formula released by the office of the Ag. Director of sports, all the 27 LGA’s received four balls, while six was given to the State Volleyball Association and the rest kept in the store.
