Supreme Court Hears Okorocha Appeal against Ohakim, PDP Today

The anxiety of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dr Ikedi Ohakim, their followers, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Gov Rochas Okorocha and other Nigerians will today be assuaged at Supreme Court, as the appeal against PDP and Ohakim’s leave to appeal granted by the Appeal Court sitting in Owerri commences hearing today at the apex court in Abuja.

Both the PDP and their 2011 general election governorship candidate, Dr Ohakim were granted leave to appeal on the judgment of a Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, on the constitutionality and legality of the May 6th 2011 supplementary election held in Imo State as an interested party.

However, the eventual winner of the contentious supplementary election Gov Rochas Okorocha and his party APGA, did not concede to the ruling of the Appeal Court and consequently went to the apex court to challenge the ruling of the Appeal Court.

After much anticipation by all the parties involved, today has finally been fixed for the commencement of hearing of the appeal at the Supreme Court. It will be recalled that both Okorocha and APGA joined the supplementary case as an interested parties.

The case instituted by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the 2011 general election governorship flag bearer, Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume is against the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on the amended 1999 constitution and the Electoral Act over the legality or otherwise of the May 6th 2011 supplementary election in Imo. Ironically, Sen. Ararume and ACN were not the first to challenge the constitutionality and legality of the supplementary election. The election was first challenged by Rochas Okorocha the beneficiary, in an Abuja Federal High Court, before it was conducted.
