I Hate Watching

 Football- Okorocha

The alleged Travails and fund starvations being experienced by players and management of the Imo state football team, Heartland Football Club of Owerri, may not be unconnected to the recent statement of the governor of the state Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Governor Okorocha at an induction ceremony of the Owerri Club recently, pronounced his hatred for watching the game of football. In his words “To be frank with you I hate watching football matches but not that I don’t like the game”. The question now is can somebody like a game he/she hates to watch.

Okorocha did not stop there, he went further to state his reason “it is unacceptable to me that millions of people will be watching, cheering and supporting and at the end of the match only the players will be celebrated and rewarded” he explained.

Unfortunately, Okorocha’s infamous and inglorious statement came at a time when the entire state and the nation at large were enmeshed in a record breaking football embarrassment of all time, caused by the inability of Heartland FC of Owerri (for the first time in their history) to honour a Confederation Cup match against US Bitam of Gabon due to logistic lapses.

That  statement, some of the audience observed did not only indict the government over the plight and predicament of the club but also exonerated the management of the club of any financial inaction, on the welfare of the players for it is said that one can not give what he does not have.

With the statement, the football loving people at the state now know why their darling club has been subjected to such harsh condition inspite of their recent exploits in the Nigerian Federation Cup and the premier league big four, However it is a well established truth that no human supports, funds or encourages a spot/game he/she hates to watch.    \
