Umuokpo, Emeabiam in Owerri West LGA came alive, Tuesday when members of the Community Government Council (CGC) in the area were presented.
The presentation of the CGC came after the inauguration last week which took place at the local Government headquarters, Umuguma.
Presenting the CGC members at Umuokpo autonomous community primary school field, the Government Liaison Officer (GLO), member Board of Directors, Imo State Oil Producing Development Commission (ISOPADEC) and a prominent stakeholder in the State, Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze(Oyiga) said the presentation of the CGC members was in line with plans to move the community forward.
He said “We are here today to tell our people, Umuokpo, that government has appointed members of the CGC. They have been inaugurated and presented. I have come to present myself as the GLO and the CGC members before the community. All went well as the Eze is present. I feel this is the right time to move Umuokpo forward. I am doing this with all my heart and the love I have for my people”
Oyiga outlined that the problems confronting Umuokpo community will be overcome by the members of the CGC governing Council as they are devoted and bent on attracting real development to the community. He advised them to work in unity and the fear of God and live up to expectations as to ensure peace, progress and unity of the community.
He commended Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his wisdom to have introduced Community Government Council to boost development of rural communities in Imo, asking God to the governor long life.
While enumerating the functions of the CGC, Chief Njemanze stressed that “the function of CGC is to maintain peace and security, agriculture, educational and health supervision, environmental and social affairs, rediscovery of youths hidden talents, administrative/financial, information and cultural enhancement in the localities. Here, the executive secretary is the overall administrative body of the CGC, whereas the Traditional ruler oversees the advisory body. And due process must be followed.
In his opening prayer, the traditional ruler of Umuokpo, Eze Eunan Eke gave his blessings and support for the CGC in the community.
In her speech, the executive secretary of Umuokpo CGC, Mrs Enwerem Hope thanked Oyiga for his efforts to bring peace and development to Umuokpo, and for paying the N250,000 counterpart fund for the people in order to receive N I million naira subvention fund from the State Government.
The members of the CGC governing Council of Umuokpo autonomous community are: Hon Chief Gisbon A. Njemanze (GLO), Evangelist Hilary Ekeh (Secretary General), Mrs Nwanyima Nwosu (Women Leader), Mr. Chijioke Nwoke (Youth Leader), Mr. Alex Aguguo (CLO), Mrs Enwerem Hope (Executive Secretary), and all the members of CGC, Umuokpo community.
