In line with constitutional provision needed to impeach a Deputy Governor as enshrined in Nigeria law, the members of the Imo State House of Assembly have secured about 25 signatories to effect the number two person in the state.
This is coming at the heals of the request extended to the Chief Judge of the state who has been asked to lead a seven-man panel to investigate allegation before reporting to the House for final onslaught in the impeachment plot.
Initially, ten lawmakers of APGA extraction signed the notice which met constitutional requirements of simple majority for the impeachment notice. But during plenary yesterday, 26 members spreading across the parties signed the impeachment to signal that Agbaso is a goner.
Despite the outcome of the report of the Chief Judge, the House needs a mandatory 2/3 majority signatories to actualize their dreams of removing the Deputy Speaker.
2/3 majority for members of the House is 18 since they are 26 in number.
The only absentee to the signatories is the speaker, Rt Hon. Ben Uwajumogu, who acts as the presiding officer. Initially, the member representing Ehime Mbano was absent but sent a text message to the phone of number of a colleague to confirm participation.
The process to get the signature was dramatic. Suspecting fool play, the speaker requested members willing to take part in the impeachment to move to his right side where the majority leader is in charge.
While those against should move to the left where the minority leader is seated. All members neared to the right and signed. However, the member representing Agbaso, Hon. Dan Ikpeazu wore a pitiable look as he had no option than to join others after skipping previous plenary sessions.
