Sack Fever Grips Imo Assembly .As Court Removes Edo-Lawmaker Over Carpet-Crossing

The four members of Imo House of Assembly who joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on June 11, 2011 at the floor of the Imo House of Assembly are said to be living in fear, counting their days as Lawmakers.

This latest fear followed developments from other states in the Federation, where Lawmakers are losing their offices in Court, for cross-carpeting to different political parties.

A Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State on Friday, sacked Hon Adolphus Ojo of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, who jumped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after winning his election under DPP. Two weeks ago, two Legislators in Ondo State also lost their positions in the same circumstance.

Although Ojo claimed DPP was in crises, which warranted his cros-carpeting to PDP, the judge said Ojo’s claim violated Section 109(1) and 2 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

It would be recalled that Hon Benji Uwajumogu, Hon Adaku Ihuoma, Hon Acho Ihim and Hon Ogbonna Uzuruigbo, all of PDP joined APGA at the day of their inauguration.

However, while Ozuruigbo has since rejoined PDP through official resignation from APGA, others have still remained in APGA, while Uwajumogu swears at all times that he is still a member of the PDP, even as he is the Speaker of the House, where APGA is “Majority”.

Imo PDP had gone to court to seek justice, and the Edo judgment has sent shivers down the spines of these Lawmakers who abandoned their old party for a new one.

“Their days are numbered. Mark my words, these Traitors will not last long from today” A top PDP source told Imo Trumpeta.
