Imo Female Football Team Overcomes Lagos For Gold Medal

As the 2022 National Sports Festival NSF, gradually draws to it’s conclusion today and tomorrow, Imo yesterday bettered it’s position on the medals table with another gold medal in female football.

The Imo female football team on Wednesday at the Jay Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Delta state peeped their counterparts from Lagos State 1-0 to grab the ultimate medal when Heartland Queens striker, Lucky Mary struck at the 87th minute of play to break the hears of Eko Ladies who on paper were termed as favourites.

The Israel Anuna led girls had on Monday stunned book makers when they decimated the host State, Delta 0-3 during the semi final match to book a place in the final against highly rated Lagos team.

The team who missed the 2020 NSF at Edo shoed class and determination to succeed at Asaba which according to the gaffer, Israel Anuna, a former goalkeeper for Iwuanyanwu National FC (now Heartland FC).

Reacting on the girls victory as well as the over all performance of Team Imo at the ongoing  biannual sports fiesta at Asaba, Hon Emeka OKoronkwo commended the spirited and patriotic performance of the athletes assuring that under his administration, sports will gain a greater heights.
