The Imo Mandate Organisation (Imo) has advised Governor Rochas Okorocha to have a rethink on Community Government Council election scheduled to hold on December 15, 2012.
They also advised the Governor to resist the imposition of traditional rulers imposed on various communities by the immediate past administration of Ikedi Ohakim, stating that such impositions does not represent the general wishes and aspirations of many communities. Comrade Nwachukwu further maintained that almost all the communities whose traditional rulers were imposed are now in crisis adding that the ripples would continue until the rightful owners of traditional stools were given the opportunity to receive what belongs to them.
The group therefore regretted why the present administration under the leadership of Owelle Rochas Okorocha has not given attention to the wailing of these communities and described the present administration inImoStateas a beneficiary of majority of the people.
The group further stated that the State government on inception, made a pronouncement and inaugurated a committee headed by Prof. Dike(SAN) to unravel issues surrounding the purported imposition of traditional rulers and wondered why more than a year, the outcome of the report has not been made public. The group therefore advised Imo State Government to, as a matter of urgency, make the report of the committee public. “If a community presents more than one aspiring traditional ruler, a plebiscite should be conducted in that community” he posited.
The group therefore maintained that if Imo must be better, it must start from the communities to address some injustices saying that it should be corrected no matter whose ox is gored. It further stated that traditional rulers should hands off from the CGC election and management stressing that communities should be allowed to select their choice and further advised Imo State Government to refund any expenses incurred through purchasing of CGC forms to the individuals involved.
