Delta Queens football club on Tuesday retained their female Premier League trophy after beating rivals Rivers Angels 3-0 in the final game of the super six tournament in Abuja.
The encounter which pitched the female FA cup holders (Rivers Angels) against the league defending champions (Delta Queens) saw Rivers Angels attacking midfielder, Stella Mbachu crying openly after losing to their perennial rivals for the second time in one week.
Dan Evumena’s team (Delta Queens) successfully defended the title they won last year at the expense of the Garden city side.
Delta Queens on their way to the final defeated Kogi confluence Queens 2-0 and Bayelsa Queens 2-0 while Rivers Angels edged sunshine Queeens 1-0 and Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 to pave way for the epic final.
Evumena had earlier before final promised to win back the league trophy which was the only title technically available for his
girls.
The former Falconets manager also said though this years women’s league is an abridged version the winners must be regarded as the best in the land.
“The Supper Six was aimed to round off the season which is an abridged version but that didn’t rub negatively on the quality of the finalists.
I think they’ve demonstrated their pedigree in past and I make bold to say the winners must be considered the best in the land,” he said.
