..As Prince Lemmy, Others Mourn
Barely one week after the burial of Heartland FC and NPFL clubs longest team bus driver, ‘Okwute’ the Owerri based side has been thrown into mourning again.
This is following the sad news of the demise of the clubs longest serving medical officer, Mr George Iheanacho who Trumpeta sports desk learnt called it 5pm (died) on Thursday April 19, 2022 after a protracted illness.
The sad news of the man popularly known as ‘Medic’ hit the club and its fans including members of the Imo state football fraternity as a shock just after the team laboured to secure a hard earned draw against Wikki Tourist FC of Bauchi at Kaduna were the team was banished by LMC after they violated rules guiding the competition in their home ground.
Meanwhile, the former Chairman of the team during their days as Spartans FC and Iwuanyanwu National FC, Prince Lemmy Akakem “Okpataozuoha” has expressed shock and regret over the sad news of the demise of Mr George Iheanacho “Medic”.
Reacting to the sad news, ” Okpataozuoha” who is currently the Owerri Zone Apex Leader of All Progressives Congress APC, described “Medic” as a true professional on his job who served Heartland FC as if it was his own property.
While revealing that he personally employed Mr Iheanacho based on his track record, Prince Lemmy disclosed that during the era the team dominated the Nigerian league winning it back to back 5 times, represented Nigeria at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and did well in the CAF Champions League then known as African Club Champions Cup, that Medic knew the history of all the players in the club due to his professionalism.
Recall that Iheanacho was one of the surviving members of the ill fated September 18, 1994 Oriental Air Lines Crash in Algeria while returning from a Champions League game in Tunisia.
The burial arrangement of late George Iheanacho “Medic” will be made known by the family.
