Chairman of Imo State Independent Electoral election (ISIEC) Chief Teddy Akwari has disclosed the readiness of his commission to conduct a free, fair and credible elections in the state local government areas.
The chairman spoke when the Executive of the Imo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a visit in his office.
Chief Akwari, said that the commission has been repositioned to be able to do perform this onerous function without any fear or favour.
While thanking Imo NUJ for the visit, the ISIEC Boss assured them of the cooperation of the commission in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier in his addressthe NUJ Chairman Sir, Innocent Igwe told the ISEC Chairman that the visit was to build a very good working relationship and understanding between the commission and journalists in the state.
Sir, Igwe advised ISIEC to always liaise with the State Council of NUJ in all its activities as that is the only why it can build a strong understanding and working relationship between the Commission and journalists in the state.
Among those who accompanied the NUJ chairman on the visit include Chief Chris Akaraonye, Emma Odibo, Chris Ekweariri, Ifeanyi Nwanguma, Berthy Kalakiya, Rev Innocent Osuoha and John Nwogu.
On the issue of credible elections in the state, the ISIEC boss assured that the commission has been repositioned to conduct free and credible elections in the state. He revealed that the commission is making arrangements with relevant agencies to educate prospective aspirants for local government elections in the state in the areas of leadership and lawmaking.
The ISIEC chairman assured that the commission will henceforth carry everybody along in the discharge of its duties and promised that the commission will always be open to answer questions from journalists on the activities of the commission.
