Men of God and religious leaders are now facing serious challenges in Imo State in the course of evangelization as a result of suspected clampdown on those who preach against Government officials.
Trumpeta findings revealed that fear has gripped many of the preachers since operatives of the Imo State Police command arrested a Pastor of the Assemblies of God church, in Owerri, for allegedly given false prophesy against the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha during a church service in Uratta, Owerri North LGA of the State.
Following that arrest which police affected and the suspect paraded before newsmen at the command headquarters, sources disclosed that church leaders and preachers now precautious while making scathing remarks against leaders in authority.
The fear may not be unconnected to the pronouncement of the police PRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who according to reports, insisted that any false prophesy has capacity of bringing serious crisis. And any pastor involved in such act must be prosecuted.
The arrested pastor was alleged to have said in his church that the Governor was recruiting young men in the state with the sole aim of kidnapping children between the ages of 1 and 10yrs for the purpose of ritual.
Rev Okezu, the pastor in question has denied all the allegation against him.
Unconfirmed reports have it that agents of Government are now moving round the churches to observed sermons and preachings during Sunday services.
