The decision of the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to organize a congress of the APC in Imo State has been described as a kangaroo exercise not approved.
Making this known is the APC Stakeholders Forum, Imo State, who described the planned congress scheduled for this weekend and Monday as a sham arrangement of the State Government that is not an entirely a party affair.
Governor Rochas Okorocha had muted the idea of having a State congress of APC after the Federal High Court Owerri, nullified the earlier one and ordered for a fresh one.
However, the governor at a top class meeting of members of his political structure announced dates for the congresses which he said are scheduled for Friday, Saturday this week and Monday next week for Ward, LGA and State respectively.
Reacting over the development, chairman of APC stakeholders forum, Chief Okey Ikoro asked all party faithful to ignore such announcement and “not to participate in any purported congress as congress in Imo has been concluded and approved by the NWC and affirmed during the National Convention of the party.
“Also any other issue about the congress is before a court of competent jurisdiction and any action taking by the governor and his handful of supporters is prejudiced.
“We urge all party members to remain calm and ignore the governor and his arrangee congress, as non of that can stand the test of time”.
Trumpeta recalls that after the verdict of the court, the defendants who lost in the matter proceeded to the Appeal Court to challenge the ruling. Their Appeal was also for stay of execution pending the determination of the case.
