There was mild drama at the at meeting of all Stakeholders of the six autonomous communities Akokwa recently, as some youths allegedly booed the representative of the Commissioner of Market Development, Imo State, who was representing Governor Okorocha to chart the way forward after the demolition of Akokwa market.
The Commissioner had gone to negotiate with the six autonomous communities where the protest took place could only bear the embarrassment and still delivered the message of the government to the people.
His arrival was greeted by angry youths who were said to have called the Commissioner and the Governor unprintable names and abusing them for allegedly defending the demolition of their market with no clear cut plans to rebuild it. The youths who arrived the venue of the meeting kept on chanting “We no go gree” “PDP, PDP, Power to the people” were somehow organized and never disrupted the meeting, but continued to chant songs in support of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to press down their disappointment with All Progressive Congress (APC) and Governor Okorocha over his urban renewal program.
Reports say the protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Leave Akokwa Land alone”, “Okorocha Go! Go! We are fed up with you”, and “We want PDP now”.
Some of the youth who spoke to newsmen expressed their dissatisfaction with the State Government over its style of doing things without due consultation and good plans for adequate compensation. Most of them frowned at this method and called on the State Government to rebuild their market to reduce poverty and suffering rather using style to grab peoples’ land.
