The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has begun preparations for the 2015 general election. But it is not yet clear if he is getting set for the Presidential or Governorship election. However, what is not in doubt is that he is “warming up”.
Indications are rife that Governor Okorocha maybe planning for the Presidential election because of the inscription written on the new vehicles “Be your brothers keeper”, instead of Rescue Mission” which is an indication that he may be uping the ante to a higher level.
Okorocha in a Sun Newspaper publication a few weeks ago had reiterated it that he has not abandoned his presidential ambition yet.
With the latest development of purchasing Buses which were shared to coordinators, it is now clear that the Ogboko born politician meant what he said on the presidential ambition.
The vehicles which have been parking at Government House Owerri, were distributed in phases to the Local Government areas ofImoState.
A source in Government House said Owerri zone got their vehicles on Wednesday and it was handed over to the coordinators of Agenda Group, Okorocha’s political family.
It was learnt that Okorocha wants to begin on time, realizing how tough it is to canvass for votes inNigeria, with its vast land mass and population.
Imo Trumpeta was informed that it was because of Okorocha’s presidential ambition that he appointed liaison officers to representImoState in the Northern states ofNigeria.
Okorocha’s latest action would have cooled frayed nerves among APGA members who have been confused whether Okorocha will run for governorship again in 2015 or not before they make their own ambitions open.
Meanwhile, many of those who spoke to Imo Trumpeta commended Okorocha for the boldness to indicate interest in the presidency, pointing out that it was unfortunate that despite the fact the 2015 elections are approaching, no Igbo politician has come out to show interest in the exalted position.
“I commend Okorocha for this bold step. He would be making Ndigbo proud if he comes out now. It is a shame that nobody from Igboland has dared come out yet after it was agreed it would be the turn of Ndigbo in 2015” a prominent politician from Imo told Imo Trumpeta on phone fromAbuja.
Others maintained that should Okorocha come out for the presidency, Ndigbo should rally support for him, despite political parties affiliations, as his ambition would be regarded as a pan – Igbo affair.
However, an impeccable source from Government House Owerri confirmed that the Governor was sharing brand new buses to APGA members in Imo, but did not confirm if they were for governorship or presidential elections come 2015.
