Sweet Apple Unity Football Competition Ignites Ikeduru LGA

The 6th edition of the annual Sweet Apple Ikeduru Unity Football Competition for all the Communities in Ikeduru LGA kicked off with lots of fireworks on Sunday.

The opening ceremony of the tournament which has produced lots of talents over the years which is powered by Chief Denis Okwu aka Sweet Apple took place at the St Mary’s Catholic community school Iho, play ground with lots of dignitaries in attendance including Heartland FC gaffer, Ramson Madu and many others.

In a chart with Trumpeta sports desk shortly after the opening game between Umuofo and Obodo-Amaimo, the Chairman Organizing Committee of the Sweet Apple Ikeduru Unity Cup. Hon Sam Chidi Amonu expressed delight over this edition which according to him marks the 15th years adding that players like Uche Ndukwe of Umueze community in the last edition now plays professional football with Heartland FC.

Hon Sam while appreciating the donor for his faithfulness with the youths which cuts across other empowerment programmes said they are hopeful that more of the players discovered in the tourney will at some point of the carrear just like Kelechi Iheanacho of Leiciester City who he noted also played in the tournament some years back.

Highlight of the opening ceremony was the official kick-off taken by the donor himself Chief Denis Okwu were he displayed some skills to the delight of the mammoth crowd.

Goals from Amaraegbu Anderson and Atu Onyewueze in both halves was all Umuofo needed to silence their counterparts from Obodo- Amaimo to take all three points during the highly entertaining opening match.
