Labour in the state, yesterday, halted temporarily plans to embark on strike and a mass rally earlier scheduled to begin yesterday, August 22nd, 2012.
This development, according to watchers of the labour/government face – off in the state, does not signal the end of the crisis rocking the relationship between organised labour in the state and the Owelle Rochas Okorocha Administration.
Speaking exclusively to Imo Trumpeta yesterday, the state chairman, Nigeria Civil Service Union, NCSU, Imo state Chapter, Comrade Magnus Ohaeri, said labour decided to sheathe its sword for now as a result of the state government’s acceptance to implement the contents of the Community Government Council (CGC) law.
It will recall that the embattled administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha acted swiftly to avert another strike action by summoning the labour leaders for discussions on Monday, August 20th.
This Newspaper learnt Labour could have embarked on a protest march in a black mourning outfit through major streets in Owerri Metropolis. The protest march could have offered the workers an opportunity to show case their deep resentment to some government policies and programmes.
The two day protest march could have led to a massive industrial action scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 22th.
