The wife of Imo executive Governor, Ugo Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha on Tuesday joined women all over the world in celebrating 2017 Women’s Day, noting that she was not prepared nor fit when she came on board as wife to Imo State Executive Governor in 2011.
The Imo first lady who made this disclosure recently at the Imo International Conference Centre (IICC) on the occasion of the 2017 International Women’s Day celebration also disclosed that it was God, a turn of events, personal effort and desire to be impactful that eventually helped her to do what she needed to do through those first years and then brought her to a time in life when she was able to bloom in her position today as Imo first lady.
She further remarked that she truly believed probably that it is not enough to be just Governor Okorochas wife. Stressing that great positions call for responsibilities. If I was told I would stand to address this mammoth crowd many years ago I would simply say it is a lie but I told myself I must make an impact. You all can do better, who say you can’t be the next Governor of Imo state?” she queried.
Her words, “Just be bold for positive change. Being bold should not be misunderstood to mean talking back at your husband; it required some degree of wisdom knowing what to say at the right time. You just have to be courageous and sensitively conscious about those around you. A woman is key and important, Mrs Okorocha further charged Imo women to be bold for positive change by being impactful, courageous and vanguard of innovative reform that will bring about positive change in their various home and society at large.
The first lady while given this charge also made reference to the theme of the 2017 International Women’s Day, titled; Be Bold for Change describing it as apt. Stressing that for women to be bold they have to be knowledgeable.
Equipped yourselves by enhancing your knowledge she averred.
Nneoma went down memory lane stressing that when she came onboard as Imo first lady in 2011 she told Imo Women that the world was waiting for them. She charged them to take responsibilities since God made them mothers and wives in their various homes and society.
